Don't be fooled: a higher price doesn't always mean better quality. Look past the marketing at the ingredients and guaranteed analysis for a better idea of the food's quality.
Plus, it doesn’t matter if you buy the most expensive food in the world if it doesn’t meet your dog’s individual needs.
YOUR pet
Like people, our pets are unique creatures with a wide range of tastes and needs.
First consider your pet’s age, size, breed, and activity level, as some pet food makers get very specific- like large breed senior formulas, for example.
Also, keep in mind any health issues your pretty kitty may be experiencing. If she’s overweight, consider a healthy weight formula, or try a fish formula if his skin and coat need a little extra TLC.
Sustainable Sourcing
As discussed in our sustainably sourced pet food post, we as consumers aren't always privy to sourcing practices that we otherwise may not support. Do your research on the company and manufacturer of the food you’re interested in to be confident that they source and make their pet food to your personal standards.
Just as it’s important to know the ingredients in your pooch’s food, it’s also important to know where these ingredients came from. Most pet food makers have the information listed directly on their website. Be aware: ‘made’ refers to where the product was manufactured, while 'sourced' refers to the origin of each ingredient.

Should you have any questions about a particular food, brand or manufacturer, first check their website. If any information is not listed online, most provide a telephone number or contact form and are happy to answer your questions. 
Labels
Reading the label on your pet’s food should be your first priority. This will help identify all ingredients and will further justify your decision based on your analysis of your furry friend’s individual needs.
